Saga Mythic Europe Ordo Hermei Lusus
CovenantCharacters

PPorta Germaniae Heraldryorta Germaniae is a setting within the world of Mythic Europe, created for role-playing using the Ars Magica, 5th Edition game rules published by Atlas Games. Porta Germaniae is a community of mystical wizards, members of the mythic Order of Hermes.

When the founders of Porta Germaniae drafted an agreement to govern their community, they chose the word Foedus.  A foedus is a compact, a covenant, and by implication, a law. Foedus Porta Germaniae is the charter, set down in writing, that governs the member wizards. Foedus also indicates the community of wizards, and by extension, the physical setting and all members of that community.  All are part of Foedus, and Foedus is all of these things, and more.

Like an agreement between sovereign states, Foedus brings together independent wizards, who as powerful magi and members of Ordo Hermei, acknowledge no mundane lord as their master. Similarly, Foedus is a compact, a joining together, which will not thereafter be broken apart.  The founders of Foedus Porta Germaniae did not intend a union of convenience.  Rather, they envisioned a permanent commitment to Foedus and to the common interests of the members.

The community of Foedus consists of five groups: Ascripticii, or member magi; Consortes, who are honored companions and capable leaders of the community; Custodes, who are trusted loyal servants and protectors to the magi; Meritores, who by virtue of their special talents and education provide valued services to Foedus, and Plebecula, the common folk of Foedus community. Plebecula are accounted according to their roles within Foedus.

Auroch

The auroch is one of two primary symbols of Porta Germaniae, the other being a white monolith.

Pigni Aegidis (tokens of the Aegis) are wooden medallions carved with an auroch head, and a Roman numeral on the reverse.

Wooden tokens circulated within the Foedus as currency display an auroch head; magi refer to these tokens as Urus (aurochs), but the covenfolk call them býci (bulls).

The Porta Germaniae turb often paint their shields with a white monolith on a green field.
