Saga Mythic Europe Ordo Hermei Lusus

Mythic Europe is "like medieval Europe in 1220, except that the myths are true." (Ars Magica, Fifth Edition, page 8).  The Bohemian Rhapsody Saga begins in the Spring of 1221 AD. Up to this point, the history of Mythic Europe aligns roughly with actual European history. The differences are primarily the mythical interpretations of major historical events, and the addition of other mythical events that are not otherwise recorded in real history. Unless specifically stated otherwise, all major historical personages exist as they did in real history. However, their specific personalities, motivations, and abilities (especially as regards supernatural abilities) may diverge significantly from the real historical figures.

Going forward from 1221 AD, events in the history of Mythic Europe will roughly parallel the events of real European history, but may do so for different reasons than the generally accepted historical basis for recorded events. In addition, certain major events in Mythic Europe may deviate significantly from real history. This could result in a cascading divergence from real history, or it could represent a temporary divergence, that due to other divergent events, returns to the expected course of European history.

The mythical elements of Mythic Europe generally arise from one of four supernatural "Realms of Power," each a manifestation of a mythical supernatural force. The Divine, Faerie, Infernal, and Magic realms are summarized briefly through the links to the left, and are described in greater detail in source books for Ars Magica, 5th edition.

In addition to Mythic Europe, the Mythic Middle East and Mythic Africa offer opportunities for stories of exploration, commerce, and conflict.
