Grogs

Site: Located at the highest point of the cliff along the firth, the approach to the Covenant is completely blocked to the north by the cliff and firth. To the east is a moderate slope leading inland. To the south is another moderate slope, up which the path to the gates leads. To the west and seaward is a gentle slope out to the rocky shore at the mouth of the firth.  However, due to the Covenant being in a Regio, there is only one route of approach, which is difficult at best.  (+15)

Extent: The gatehouse with its two towers is the primary site of defense for the Covenant. Curving away from it on each side is the semi-circular vitrified-stone wall, which ends at east and west against another wall on the cliff-face. A timber parapet and stone battlements have been added to the ancient wall, except on the west, where the crystal spire tower rises from the wall to a height of 100 feet. The shanty hamlet at the base of the hill is completely undefended, although jagged rock obstacle fields have been added outside the covenant.  In addition, the Covenant has Le Corbeau Serpentee an armed flat-bottomed cog. (+5).

Repair: Overall, the defenses are in a good state of repair, although over time the repair may start to slip due to the security from the Regio. (+3)

The Grogs

Fitheach Tigh currently has around 80 warriors. Of those, some are Custos, and are not considered part of the Turb. The remaining Grogs are currently divided among four Freiceadann ("Watches" or "Guards"). Each Watch is led by a Sairsint ("Sergeant") and a Ceannaire ("Corporal"), and usually has ten to twelve warriors.
The current grogs were initially recruited from Scoti cattle raiders in the border country (some were associates of the Custos Ieun Blackwell), but have been joined by Norse warriors and Criadh Dubh natives.  Some of the grogs perform herding duties for the Covenant, acting as both herders and guards.
The watches all fall under the control of Gabhin the ex-Templar, who was hired by the Covenant to take on the duties of Turb Sergeant and train these petty outlaws into a real fighting force. Lucas works directly for the Turb Captain, Manus MacSomerled.
Fionn the Red has taken on the duties of Sairsint for the first watch, the Corr Eisc Freiceadanna ("Heron Guards"), who are trained as heavily armed and armored gallowglaigh.  The biggest grogs are in this watch of intimidating shock troops.  Jones the Welshman is Sairsint for the second watch, the Preachan Freiceadanna ("Crow Guards"), who are trained as crossbowmen.   Adair McManus is Sairsint for the third watch, the Mhibhern Freiceadanna ("Wyvern Guards"), who are skilled pikemen.  Terrance the Black leads the Fabhcun Freiceadanna ("Falcon Guards"), who are elite light infantry trained in stealth, athletics, spear, shield, and longsword.
Manus has plans to add further Watches to the roster as more grogs are recruited.  Future additions will include the Iolar Freiceadanna ("Eagle Guards"), who will be mounted troops.
In addition, the 30 smuggler/pirates of Le Corbeau Serpentee are all capable warriors.  The ship is absent more than half the year, however, trading/smuggling into England, Brittany, and sometimes Normandy or Bordeaux.  And each Spring the Serpentee carries the bulk of the shearing to Ypres for sale, returning with supplies for the Covenant in late Summer.
