capital_f.gif (2495 bytes) itheach Tigh overlooks the remains of a small hamlet (now in complete disrepair) from a hill on the south side of Ben Firth on Criadh Dubh Eilan ("Black Clay Island").
A fishing smack, two curraghs, and a small cog are pulled up on a sandy beach near the head of the loch. Around it are scattered a couple of wooden storage huts and a large peat watchfire (burning at night, smoldering during the day).
The Covenant is composed of one-story stone buildings with thatch roofs built against the interior of a semi-circular vitrified-stone wall about 80 paces from summit. Battlements top the wall on all sides. One side is nearly flush against the cliff face of the firth, while two others have moderate slopes. The northwest side is a gentle slope out towards the seaside bluffs. There is a large breach in this part of the wall. The approach to the Covenant winds up a moderate slope leading from the ruined hamlet. A large gatehouse occupies much of that section of the wall. Inside the walls is a three-story vaulted stone library, where the sanctums of the magi and storage areas for mystical supplies are located.
