Of course, I didn't learn of this
until a different beginning, so from which beginning should I start? No matter, I was the
only child of a Sardinian noble. My mother, who was common woman of renowned beauty, died
in childbirth, which was a shame, as I would like to have known her. It was said that she
carried the sun in her golden tresses, and she could soften the coldest heart with her
smile. Anyway, my father was devastated by her death, but I like to think that I helped
cheer him up a touch; although he was disappointed with me. Despite that
disappointment, he was a good father, and treated me like I was his best friend. I
remember once, when he took me hunting with him.... but you are not interested in
that...He died when I was 10 years old. Upon his death my lands reverted back to the
supposed "Holy Mother" church. Why do the mundanes call that institution
of theirs the Holy Mother? It is not sacred or very personable, like I would imagine a
holy mother to be.... but I digress... The church-people guaranteed me a clerical
position, but I could not imagine such a life... besides churches make me feel real
uncomfortable, and then there is that annoying bell...but anyway.... So, I ran away and
lived like a thief. One day, I picked the wrong pocket, which actually turned out to be
the right pocket, that is I attempted to steal the purse of the great Magus Salix. At once
Salix recognized my Gift, and took me as his apprentice. Salix filled the vaccum
that was left after my father's death. He even intimated to me after my Gauntlet that I
was his favortie apprentice. I will always think fondly of him. What?! Oh yes... the
story... Well to continue the story we move forward to my Gauntlet, back a couple of
generations, and sideways to the fair ones in between. After a mere 8 years, Salix offered
to administer my Gauntlet. He told me that I had the fair blood in my veins and that
should I discover the source of Fae nature that he would call me Soldales. After 6
seasons of of finding nothing in my father's lineage, I decided to travel back to
Sardinia, and visit my mother's parents to solve this riddle. Much to my dismay, I
discovered that they had passed on to the next world, but as luck would have it, I learned
from the midwife of my village (who was still living) that my mother was actually
discovered by my grandfather on the edge of the forest when she was a baby. Since they had
no children of their own, they adopted my mother. Emboldened with this new
information, I struck out for the forest in question, and discovered that my suspicions
were correct. Before the next phase I was already attending the court of Trevadacil, my
uncle. After performing a minor quest for him (during which I met Manuel, my shield grog)
he related to me the story of his parents and my grandparents. I was told that my true
grandparents had twins, one of which was my mother. However, the magic of the union was
too strong for the realm, and my mother had to be returned to the mortal world (see my
Treatise on the Exponential Overcompensation of the Human Imagination and its Seelie
Destabilizing Effect on the Faerie Regio for further explanation). Having compleated my
Gauntlet, I was initiated and sought my fortunes (followed by Philograchus, who had also
just compleated his gauntlet) with a distant relation on my mother's side, Caitlin Suil
Uaine, Follower of Merinita. After spending quite a few years at Crun Clach, Tain
MacMurdoch Ex Miscellanea, Philograchus of House Bonisagus, and I formed the covenant of
Fitheach Tigh... and the rest you know..." |
